How You Can Help

You can help our community in so many ways.  In fact, you might be surprised at some of our needs, but when you begin to think about the life of someone who is homeless or in poverty, the needs may begin to make more sense.  If you are interested in volunteering at COR, please contact Rev. Jerry Stephens, Minister to Volunteers, at jerry@churchofthereconciler.com

As of Jan 1, 2017 we will no longer be accepting donations for the clothes closet at Church of the Reconciler. we are happy to refer you to another organization that can meet that need much better than we can.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO ACCEPT NEW UNDERWEAR, SOCKS, AND WINTER ITEMS DURING COLD MONTHS.  PLEASE SEE OUR UPDATED NEEDS LIST BELOW.

IF YOU WANT TO DROP OFF A DONATION, JUST CALL THE OFFICE AHEAD OF TIME AT 205-324-6402.  IF WE DON’T ANSWER, JUST LEAVE A MESSAGE AND WE WILL CALL YOU BACK TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS ASAP.  WE ASK THAT MOST ITEMS BE DROPPED OFF MONDAY-THURSDAY FROM 9AM-NOON, OR ON SUNDAYS FROM 11AM-NOON.

Ongoing needs:

Hotel-size hygiene items- Twice a week we offer “hygiene packs” to our community consisting of various items: shampoo, soap, safety razors, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other items.  This ensures that our community stays as clean as they can if they are on the streets, and presentable if they are lucky enough to get a job interview.

Toilet Paper- This is often a much sought after item on the streets, so making sure we have enough on hand is always important.

Kitchen Supplies- Foam cups (6-8oz), paper plates, napkins, plastic forks, coffee, large garbage bags, paper towels, and kitchen cleaning supplies are always needed since we serve up to 250 plates per day in our kitchen.  As you can imagine, serving that many people per day can wipe out our supply of kitchen items pretty quickly!

Bibles- We are often asked for Bibles.  If you have some spare ones, help us by donating them so you can help us spread the Bread of Life.

Office Supplies- Copy paper, pens, pencils, folders, and other office supply items are often in need since we help so many people.
